The fractionated CO2 technology delivered using the scanner handpiece can be used to treat the most common facial blemishes, such as wrinkles, dark spots and dilated pores, improving skin tone and brightness. The laser energy released onto the skin stimulates the production of new collagen, with a noticeable overall improvement that lasts up to six months. We talk about resurfacing when the therapy is more intense, and refreshing for lighter, repeated applications. Resurfacing is also used to improve the appearance of post-acne scars.
Refreshing and resurfacing are undoubtedly able to improve the overall appearance of the skin of the face. They must be carried out by an expert and the patient should be engaged in the post-treatment phase. More intense treatments produce more significant and immediate results, but also require longer and more challenging down-time (the period after the treatment). Effects may vary from simple reddening for a few days, in the case of refreshing, to actual scaling and the formation of scabs that can last as long as a week, in the case of resurfacing.
It is very important to follow the doctor’s instructions for the period after the treatment, with the application of soothing creams and antibiotics and photoprotection for at least a couple of months.
