Diastasis recti is the separation of the two abdominal wall muscles, caused by a widening of the gap between them. It mainly occurs after a pregnancy during which the abdominal cavity has become particularly dilated. The problem of diastasis is often not merely cosmetic, but also functional, causing a progressive loss of abdominal wall strength. The solution consists of correction by restoring the continuity of the abdominal wall. This surgery is often performed together with a tummy tuck or mini tummy tuck.
Correction of diastase allows the abdominal wall to regain continuity, closing the unsightly gap between the two muscles during muscle contraction. The post-op period is of major importance for the success of the procedure, requiring the use of an elastic abdominal binder to assist healing, followed, after a few months, by specific exercises to strengthen the abdominal wall.
