A rather common problem that affects breast is an inverted nipple, i.e. a nipple that remains retracted into the breast. This condition can be present at birth or could be the result of trauma. Inverted nipple correction surgery is a surgical procedure that “brings the nipples back out”, thus resolving a number of possible difficulties that may be aesthetic and relational as well as practical and clinical in nature, for example complications when breastfeeding. The operation is performed under local anaesthetic or sedation.
The nipple will acquire, or re-acquire, normal shape and position, hopefully permanently.
